Last night’s AEW Dynamite on TNT averaged 734,000 overall viewers with a 0.29 rating in the 18-49 demo. WWE NXT on the USA Network averaged 720,000 overall viewers with a 0.21 rating in 18-49.

Dynamite’s viewership was down 14.1 percent from last week. NXT was up 9.3 percent in viewers. The combined Wednesday wrestling audience of 1.454 million viewers was down 3.9 percent from last week and below the 10-week average.

The biggest competition on cable for both shows was an NBA game between the NBA’s marquee team — the Los Angeles Lakers — and Philadelphia 76ers. The game aired directly opposite both Dynamite and NXT and averaged 1.775 million viewers. The game drew a 0.65 rating in 18-49.

Dynamite finished sixth on the cable charts in the 18-49 demo. This was Dynamite’s second-lowest rating in the demo since November. The show was down 19.4 percent from last week.

NXT finished 24th on the charts in 18-49, much higher than usual, and its demo rating was up 40 percent from last week. It matched the highest 18-49 demo number for NXT since Halloween Havoc in October. The viewership total for NXT was the highest so far in 2021.

It was a rare occasion where NXT won a demo other than people over 50. NXT won in women 18-49 with a 0.20 rating to Dynamite’s 0.19. NXT also won in females 12-34 with a 0.10 to 0.07 advantage. For whatever reason, women were into this week’s NXT.

The gap in people over 50 was closer than usual with NXT holding a 0.35 to 0.27 advantage.

Dynamite won every other demo, with its strongest category being men 18-49. Dynamite’s 0.40 rating almost doubled NXT’s 0.23 in that demo.

Year-over-year, Dynamite was down 11.4 percent in viewers and 14.7 percent in 18-49. NXT was up 1.1 percent in viewers and down 4.6 percent in 18-49.

TNT had technical issues near the beginning of last night’s Dynamite on some streaming platforms, though whether or not that significantly contributed to the show’s decline in the ratings from last week remains to be seen. AEW’s Tony Khan tweeted last night: “I’m so sorry that fans streaming #AEWDynamite were unable to see the opening of tonight’s show in their apps. TNT fixed the issue & got it working again. Archer vs. Kingston was a tremendous match. After this show we’ll put it on YouTube, please enjoy the rest of this great show!”
