Bahrain: COVID-19 vaccinations generate wide interest

Cairo: Bahraini citizens and expatriates have shown great interest in receiving the vaccine against COVID-19 with the initiation of the vaccination campaign in the kingdom, the Health Ministry has said without giving specific figures.

The ministry called on people to register for the vaccine through its website https://healthalert.gov.bh to set appointments for citizens and foreign residents to take the vaccine.

###

“The vaccine is offered for free and everyone above the age of 18 can register to take it,” the ministry said on its Twitter account.

Health authorities stressed the importance of being vaccinated against COVID-19 as part of the country’s efforts to stem the pandemic.

Bahrain, a country of around 1.7 million population, so far has recorded 89,743 virus cases and 349 related fatalities.

###

Bahrain aims at vaccinating 5,000 people per day, to be maximised to 10,000. Earlier this week, Bahrain’s National Health Regulatory Authority announced approving the registration of a vaccine against COVID-19 developed by the Chinese pharmaceutical giant Sinopharm.

Bahrain this month became the second country in the world after the UK granting an emergency use authorisation for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine against COVID-19.
