COVID-19: Nurses in Oman given training on vaccination programme

Muscat: The Directorate General of Health Services in Muscat Governorate, along with the Ministry of Health’s Nursing Department conducted a training session on the Expandable programme on Immnunisation (EIP) at its premises.

Earlier the Ministry of Health had announced that the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will be arriving in Oman today, December 24. The vaccination process will start from December 27, Sunday with Oman’s Minister of Health Dr Ahmed Al Saeedi, receiving the first shot of the vaccine.

The training programme targeted nurses from the various EIP focal points in the Directorate’s health institutions. The attendees were updated on COVID–19 vaccine and were also trained on the mechanism of using the vaccine.

Target audience

They were briefed on identifying the primary target audience of the vaccine as well as centres and location where the vaccine is available to be administered.

A modus operandi has been put in place with trained staff ready to administer the vaccine to the target group, as announced by the Ministry of Health.

The target groups in the first stage are the ones that are most vulnerable to disease, including frontline workers, the elderly, diabetics, people with chronic lung disease, patients with kidney failure, and workers in Intensive care departments for COVID-19 patients.
