COVID-19: Omani police arrest expats for violating ban on gatherings

Cairo: Omani police have arrested a group of expatriates for violating a ban on gatherings as part of precautions in the sultanate to contain the spread of the coronavirus, according to a media report.

The suspected violators were arrested in the southern governorate of Dhofar, Shabiba online newspaper reported.

The offenders included an Omani citizen. They are being kept in custody as legal procedures against them are finalized, it added without further details.

Last month, a state supreme committee in charge of tackling COVID-19 in Oman declared that names and photos of violators of precautions against the highly infectious disease will be published in the media.

Oman reimposed a night-time ban on movement that ended on October 24 in an attempt to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

###

The sultanate so far has registered a tally of 116,847 virus cases and 1,275 related fatalities.
