Further Speculation On The Rock’s WWE In-Ring Return Following Raw This Week
As seen on WWE Raw this week, Elias once again name-dropped The Rock, as the Raw star has been calling out The Great One in recent weeks.
We noted yesterday, via F4WOnline.com, that The Rock does indeed have interest in returning to a WWE ring at WrestleMania 35, and on today’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer speculated that it looks like WWE is going in the direction of Elias vs Rock, in some capacity.
“I don’t think [Elias] said The Rock for no reason. I think that might be the idea that they’re building towards. It’s good for him. For him to be in a match with The Rock, that’s a positive.” Meltzer furthered that The Rock does not want to come back to do an “average match”, so the bout will have to be a PPV length match.”
Back in early July, The Rock revealed he does indeed want to return to a WWE ring, and had the following to say at the “Skyscraper” red carpet premiere:
“I can’t wait to get back into a WWE ring,” Rock told Cathy Kelley. “Because everybody always asks me, ‘what’s it like being in a WWE ring, and I always tell them…there’s nothing like it. There’s nothing like the inside of a WWE ring because there is a certain live crowd acumen, there’s great connective tissue that is second to none.”
It should be stressed that the above comments from Meltzer are not confirmation that the match between Elias and Rock is scheduled to take place.
