Iran must be held accountable for nuclear activity: Saudis

Dubai: Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan on Tuesday called on the international community to hold Iran accountable for its nuclear activities.

“The role of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Iran’s nuclear programme is crucial,” Prince Faisal said at a joint press conference with his Austrian counterpart Alexander Schallenberg in Vienna.

On the Yemeni crisis, Prince Faisal said that the Iran-backed Houthi militia had deliberately escalated the situation and attacked Marib, pointing out that the militia rejected the ceasefire initiative in Yemen. “The Kingdom presented a strategic initiative for a ceasefire in Yemen, and it is keen to stop the war in the country,” he said.

The minister revealed that the Iranian interference in the region’s domestic affairs was highlighted during his talks with Austrian leaders, adding that the Kingdom shares a common vision with Austria regarding stability in the region.

When asked about Israel’s new government, Prince Faisal said: “We do not have relations with Israel and hence a change of its government does not affect us.”

The minister highlighted the Kingdom’s belief in interfaith dialogue. He also emphasised his country’s commitment to addressing the challenge of climate change.
