Muscat: People in Muscat woke up to see a cloudy start to the day, which nevertheless was humid and hot. The weather warning from the Meteorology department issued yesterday had indicated rainfall around the Hajjar Mountains and surroundings.

It also showed spread and flow of clouds over most of the governorates in Oman. Rains in the Sharqiya towns of Mudhaibi and Ibra saw quick moderate rains that lead to wadi overflow in some villages. Among other areas that received a fair amount of rainfall were Ibri, Yanqul, Dhank, Nizwa, Izki and Jebel Akhdar ranges.

Niyas Al Habsi, a farm-owner in Mudhaibi, said rains are always a welcome change as long as it is moderate. “I have farms in Jebel Akhdar and Mudhaibi. Water logging doesn’t happen in the terrace farms of Jebel Akhdar even with good consistent rains. But in plain lands, there is problem if there is heavy rainfall. Fortunately, the harvest is over and the fields are resting now before we start the crop farming in the next season, which is some weeks away.”

Social Media users were quick to post pictures and videos of overflowing wadis and roads of those wilayats where it rained. WeatherOmanya and various other popular Instagram handles, posted videos of rains and winds lashing in places like Haima, Rustaq and Ibri, that had garnered hundreds of views, as well as warning from well-wishing groups and individuals on the precautions to be taken and maintained while filming these videos.
