John Cena Walks the Red Carpet For “Ferdinand” World Premiere, First Reviews Looking Positive for Animated Feature

16-time world champion John Cena walked the red carpet in Los Angeles today for the world premiere of his upcoming animated film, Ferdinand. The WWE icon was joined by stars like Nick Jonas, who produced the soundtrack for the movie, Anthony Anderson, Columbian music sensation Juanes, Daveed Diggs and Gabriel “Fluffy” Ignlesias.

Cena plays the titular main character Ferdinand in the film, a peaceful, fun-loving Spanish bull that struggles to fit in with the more macho bull-fighting world that he’s forced into. Former NFL great Peyton Manning, “Dr. Who” legend David Tennant, and SNL regular Kate McKinnon also star.

The movie was produced by Blue Sky Studios, the same team being the Ice Age and Rio franchises, as well as the widely acclaimed Peanuts Movie. Studio regular Carlos Saldanha returned to direct, based on a screenplay by Robert Baird (Big Hero 6), Tim Federle and Brad Copeland (Arrested Development, Grounded for Life).

Earlier reviews are looking generally positive, although we’ll have a much better look at its critical success when it hits theaters alongside Star Wars: The Force Awakens this Friday. gave the film a glowing review, citing several hilarious scenes and praising Cena’s character Ferdinand as “all heart, and it’s tough not to love a character who’s so instinctively concerned about everyone else’s well-being.” They also praised Kate McKinnon, who you’ve probably seen as Hillary Clinton or Elizabeth Warren in recent seasons of SNL, calling her “one of those comedic co-stars whose oversize personality steals the show”.

This experience has been so rewarding. So excited for the WORLD PREMIERE of @FerdinandMovie TODAY!
