Kuwait considers implementing installment system for returning domestic workers

Kuwait City: The Kuwaiti government is deciding on the possibility of implementing a two payment installment system for domestic workers that are looking to return to the country, a senior source in the government told Al Anba.

###

According to the source, the point of installments is to reduce the cost of the Kuwaiti sponsor.

###

The source revealed that one of the possible solutions would be to divide the cost into two installments. The first payment will be for the price of the plane ticket and the second would be, upon arrival of the domestic worker, for the total quarantine package, which includes, accommodation, meals, transportation and medical examination (PCR) test.

###

In addition, the source indicated that the government will be allowing more than one company to handle the quarantine procedures and will set a fixed price price.

Resuming of flights

###

Last week, according to a source that spoke with Al Anba, the first return trips for domestic workers will begin on December 10.

###

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said last week that they are in talks with local airlines to determine a fixed cost for flights.

###

The price for an airline ticket will be as follows: 110 Kuwaiti dinars for those coming from India, 200 Kuwaiti dinars for those coming from Philippines and 145 Kuwaiti dinars for those coming from Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh.

###

A source told Al Rai that there are fixed costs because if the price was left to the market then it can drastically rise, especially since there is a limited amount of seats.

###

The health officials have agreed to the return of domestic workers as long as there are no more than 600 entering into the country each day.

###

It is estimated that once flights are resumed around 82,000 domestic workers will be looking to return to Kuwait. Of those, around 60 to 70 per cent are expected to return.
