Kuwait registers 865 new COVID-19 cases, tally at 88,243

Cairo: Kuwait has confirmed 865 new cases of the novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours, a drop of 35 cases compared to the tally reported the day before, taking the country’s overall infections to 88,243, a health official said Friday.

The country’s death tally due to COVID-19 has risen to 537 with a new fatality, Health Ministry’s spokesman Dr Abdullah Al Sanad added in an update.

There are 94 patients receiving intensive care treatment, Dr Al Sanad said, according to the Kuwaiti news agency KUNA.


Kuwait’s total virus tests have reached 636,220 after 4,738 tests have been done over the past 24 hours.


The Health Ministry earlier Friday reported that 626 more patients have recovered from COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, bringing to 79,417 the overall number of recoveries from the disease in Kuwait.


On Thursday, Kuwait recorded 900 new virus infections, its highest daily rate in recent days.


Earlier this week, the country lifted a curfew imposed for over five months to limit the spread of COVID-19.
