More Details On Saudi Arabia’s Apology for “Indecent” Images at Greatest Royal Rumble, Mainstream Media Attention
As we noted yesterday, the Saudi Arabian General Sport Authority issued an apology via Twitter for ads shown at the WWE Greatest Royal Rumble event this past Friday.
The offending ad was likely the “Best of Both Worlds” video WWE has been running as of late, featuring the women of WWE in their traditional ring gear singing with other WWE stars. The Saudi GSA might also have been upset with the promo video which ran for the WWE Backlash PPV next month, as that ad also features the women in their ring gear, which Saudi Arabia has deemed “indecent”.
The Associated Press has since picked up on the story, and notes the “Greatest Royal Rumble was cut off for a few moments as the images played”. The event was carried on various international and Saudi PPV outlets, and those PPV broadcasts were temporarily cutoff when the ads played during the show. The WWE Network stream was unaffected.
