New Japan’s 3/25 United States Return Sells Out in Less Than 20 Minutes
New Japan will be returning to Long Beach, CA on March 25th for their second major solo endeavor in the United States, Strong Style Evolved. Tickets went on sale Monday with no matches announced, no advertised names outside the obvious headliners, and a lot of speculation that the proximity to WrestleMania 34 would mean even the hardcore fans wouldn’t want to travel all the way to the west coast.
The show sold out in less than 20 minutes.
When tickets were put on sale for New Japan’s two-day G1 Special last year the first wave was totally sold out in a matter of hours, and a small batch of reserves were released the following week that were nabbed almost instantly. In that case they were in a smaller building, selling approximately 4,660 tickets for both nights combined. This time they sold about 4,700 for just one night, and did so in a fraction of the time.
According to a translation from author Chris Charlton, President of Bushiroad (the owners of NJPW) Takaaki Kidani even said that Strong Style Evolved sold 4,500 tickets in just ten minutes, and even speculates that they could have done 10,000 in hindsight.
The rapid ticket sales for this March’s show have to be credited in part to the success of Wrestle Kingdom 12, the growth of subscribers in the United States, and the original Long Beach tour which was wildly praised by those in attendance and featured mostly great matches from top to bottom on both shows.
