Oman: 89 people admitted to hospital for COVID-19 in 24 hours

Dubai: With no let-up in Oman’s COVID-19 surge, hospitalisation cases climbed to record levels with 89 people being admitted in less than 24 hours.

According to the latest figure releases by the Ministry of Health (MOH), the total hospital cases touched 419 on Thursday of which 128 are in intensive care units.

On Thursday, 733 new cases were registered, taking the total COVID-19 infections in the country to 153,838, while a total of 1,650 people have died battling the virus.

Night curfew

Over the past few months, Oman has been witnessing a non-stop surge in COVID-19 cases, prompting authorities to take several measures, the latest of which was imposing a night movement ban from March 28 between 8pm till 5am until April 8. According to the decision, all commercial activities, movement of individuals and vehicles will be prohibited during this period.

Oman’s Supreme Committee said specialists expect the period from 1 April to 31 May 2021 to be extremely difficult stage in the pandemic’s development in the Sultanate. To avoid the worse, the committee will take a series of tougher and more comprehensive measures during this period that may culminate into lockdown and total ban on movement.
