Philippines to evacuate 330 nationals from Kuwait

Cairo: The Philippines will evacuate around 330 citizens from Kuwait including 200 who have been sheltered in its embassy, according to Kuwaiti newspaper Al Qabas.

The evacuees also include a number of domestic workers who have left their employees and others who have lost their jobs due to economic repercussions of the novel coronavirus, it added.

Others have medical problems, or are illegal residents in Kuwait. The evacuation, due to take place Wednesday evening, will be conducted aboard a leased flight arranged by the Philippine embassy in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry in Manila, Al Qabas reported, citing sources at the embassy. The repatriation flight is offered for free, according to the sources.

There has been no official confirmation from the embassy.

Several Filipinos have been accommodated by their embassy in Kuwait for months now after they lost their jobs.

There are at present around 230,000 Filipinos in Kuwait, mainly domestic workers, according to the same sources.
