Syrian Minister lauds Oman’s peace efforts

Muscat: Dr Faisal Al Miqdad, Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, who is currently on an official visit to Oman, said that the balanced and peaceful policy of Oman has earned it the respect and appreciation of the world.

Dr Miqdad stressed on the supportive role of the Sultanate in restoring stability in Syria to resume its Arab, regional and international roles.

He appreciated Oman’s efforts to end the suffering of the Syrian people due to the turmoil and indicated that his visit to the Sultanate is the first to an Arab country since his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates. “This visit carries many indications including the affirmation of the depth of fraternal relations and ties between the two brotherly countries,” he said.

Referring to Oman’s positions on the Syrian crisis and important regional and international issues as positive and accurate, Dr Miqdad said that these are inspired by Sultan Haitham bin Tariq.

Arab League

###

Talking about the return of Syria to the Arab League, the Syrian minister said that Syria is the beating heart of Arabism and did not leave the Arab League with the consensus of the Arabs.

The Syrian minister pointed out that his country’s government is working for the Syrian people and looking after their requirements and is ready to sit down with the opposition to start a dialogue on the frameworks of responsibility and the interest of the Syrian people. “We wil not however negotiate or sit with terrorist groups that are financed from abroad and have other agendas.”

More than 3 million refugees have returned to Syria, the Minister informed, adding that the government supports the return of refugees without any conditions, because they are only returning to their homeland.
