Yemen: Al Houthi shell hits wedding hall and kills 5 women

Cairo: A shell fired by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Al Houthi militia hit a wedding hall in the Red Sea city of Hodeida, killing five women, local media reported Saturday.

Seven others, including seven children, were injured in the Friday attack on the women-only hall, Yemeni news portal Aden Al Ghad said.

###

The shell had been fired by Al Houthis from the eastern part of the city that is under the rebels’ control, witnesses and local sources told the website.

###

The attack comes a day after five workers had been killed in shelling by Al Houthis of a commercial complex in Hodeida, it added.

Over 100 injured

###

Military escalation has recently heightened in war-wracked Yemen. On Wednesday, a huge explosion hit the Aden airport killing 25 people and injuring over 100 others.

###

The blast occurred as a plane carrying members of the newly formed government landed at the airport from Saudi Arabia. The Yemeni government has accused the Iran-aligned Al Houthi militia of standing behind the attack.

Al Houthis plunged Yemen into a devastating conflict in late 2014 when they toppled the internationally recognised government and seized the capital Sana’a.
